About the Series

To commemorate the 35th Anniversary, The Balkans35 Commemoration Project is assembling a comprehensive record of the contributions and accomplishments of all deployed to Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, and surrounding regions.

Lived experiences, recounted by those who served in the Balkans, form the heart of this Collection – stories that capture moments of courage, fear, hardship, humour, healing and sacrifice. By sharing them, we honour all who served in the Balkans – and the Families who supported them.

Over 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces personnel and civilians served in the Balkans as part of international peacekeeping and stabilization efforts between 1992 and 2004. Each Operation with different Rules of Engagement, objectives and circumstances. Their common mission was to help restore order, protect civilians, and support the rebuilding of war-torn communities during a time of deep conflict and humanitarian crisis.

We proudly make these audio, video and written stories available for access by current and future historians, to ensure that our contributions and service are not forgotten.
